The wonder is that there is now a new continent.

Yes, so far we know about seven continents, but now scientists have studied and published information about the eighth continent. This eighth continent is located near New Zealand, which means it is located in the southern part of the Pacific Ocean.

We may have a doubt! How can a new continent be formed in this land area? But the continent was not newly formed; it had been submerged in the ocean for almost 375 years. Geologists came to know about the existence of this continent in 2017 while exploring some rocky areas. Currently, information about this continent is released.

Be that as it may, what is a continent? How is a continent defined? Doubts may arise! A continent must have an area of at least one million square kilometres and should have a land area slightly higher than the sea level. Only then can we accept it as a separate continent. Moreover, its boundaries must be geographically defined, i.e. its boundaries must be distinct from other landmasses, and these are said to be separate continents.

So does this new continent fall within this definition? Although its land surface has been underwater for 375 years, now its land surface and some islands are beginning to be known. Still, its land surface is parallel to the sea level, so there is a big debate going on whether to call it an island or a separate continent.

94 per cent of the continent's landmass is submerged under the sea, and the landmass lies at a depth of 3500 feet. A recent study conducted by Geoscience World Journal revealed that this eighth continent is submerged in water. The continent was first discovered in 1642 by Dutch sailor Abel Tasman.

The existence of this continent was discovered by geologists in 2017, and now in 2023, more information about this continent has come out. That is why from the year 1642 to the year 2017 this continent was discovered, after about 375 years the existence of a continent has become known to the outside world.

The name of this new continent is called Zealandia. It is a long and narrow, mostly submerged continent. It is called Zealandia because the Latin name for New Zealand is Zealandia. The continent is called Zealandia after the Latin name for New Zealand because of its proximity to New Zealand.

The wonder is that there is now a new continent. The wonder is that there is now a new continent. Reviewed by knowledge people creators on October 02, 2023 Rating: 5
