A science project to predict the weather.

Intention

This science project works by changing the colour of the kite we made due to the humidity in the air.

Concept

Many people are interested in doing innovative projects. If we prepare a kite that shows the weather, we can tell the weather change by holding that kite and if its colour changes, we can tell the weather change. There are effortless methods for making such colour changes. The air's humidity is taken as the basis for predicting the weather. If the humidity is high, it is likely to rain, while if the humidity is low, there will be dry weather. We only need a chemical substance to change colour based on the humidity in the air, and we can predict the weather when the humidity in the air changes.

Required materials

Materials required for making kites include cobalt chloride 50 grams, blotting paper, thread and glue.

Method

Take a piece of blotting paper and make it into a kite shape. If you cannot make it like a kite, you can make it in any other shape. For example, you can make it in the shape of a flower, butterfly, etc.

If you have made shapes other than a kite, you can stick that shape on a wooden stick to display it permanently. The important thing is that cobalt chloride changes colour according to humidity.

The shape of the blotting paper is needed for us to show it creatively, that is, for us to interpret it, like a kite that announces the weather, a flower that announces the weather, or a butterfly that announces the weather.

Now, dissolve 20 grams or a little more of cobalt chloride chemical in 50 millilitres or a little more water to make a solution. Make sure that the blotting paper you have made is completely immersed in that solution. The nature of the blotting paper makes it absorb ink well, and so does this cobalt chloride solution.

If you make a cobalt chloride solution and dip a piece of blotting paper in it, your project is ready.

How to predict the weather by changing the colour?

If the blotting paper you have prepared turns bluish-pink, it indicates rain is coming.

If the blotting paper turns pink, it indicates that a cyclone is coming.

If the blotting paper turns sky blue, it indicates that the weather is dry.

In this way, you can predict the weather by changing the colour of the blotting paper. If you want to show this in your schools and colleges, you can show and explain the colour change of the day's weather and some other blotting papers that have already changed colour when the weather changes.
