Scientists from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore have created a new type of robot that is only one millimetre, almost the size of a rice ball.
This robot has been created to enter the human body and
inject medicine only to the place where it needs to be injected. Assistant
Professor Lum Guo Zhan of the university said that this robot is very soft and
has been created as a very small rice ball-shaped robot, only one millimetre in
size.
After this robot is injected into the body, it can be
controlled using a magnetic field. Through magnetic force, this robot can be
controlled from outside to where it should enter the body and where the
medicine should be injected.
This robot has been created in such a way that it does not
cause any damage not only to human muscles but also to cells. Since it is very
soft, these robots do not cause any harm to cells and nerves when entering
the human body.
Usually, when a medicine is given to sick people, the effect of the medicine may decrease within a few hours after they have taken it. The medicine's nature may weaken
after entering the human digestive system.
Therefore, some medicines are injected into the body rather
than taken as pills. Medicines injected into the body also do not reach the
specific diseased areas properly. These rice-sized robots have been developed
as a great solution to such problems.
When this small robot is inserted into the body, it will go
to the affected area, and then the medicine can be injected through a magnetic
field to deliver the medicine.
There is a high chance of curing cancer quickly when the
medicine is injected into the specific affected areas of the human body where
there are cancerous tumours. Various studies are being conducted to develop this
new type of robot that can deliver medicine only to the affected areas of
the cancerous tumours.
Future uses of rice-sized robots
This robot may be useful for treating children. It can not
only be used to administer medicine to the body but also to diagnose diseases
and provide appropriate treatment when they enter the body.
