ISAAC NEWTON' S LIFE AND LAW - NEWTON FIRST LAW OF MOTION

                  ISAAC NEWTON

Newton was born in 1643. He was an example of an early flowering genius. Newton works long hours at a stretch without eating and sleeping. It is a fact that in spite of this he was quite indifferent from others to achievements in physics and mathematics.

Now any ordinary young twenty-four-year-old man who could invent calculus, would certainly publish it. But Newton published three of the greatest discoveries in the entire history of human thought at the age of 24.

There were

  •     Calculus
  •     Nature and composition of light
  •     Universal gravitation

Now we consider the well-known concept that we studied in our school days.

NEWTON FIRST LAW OF MOTION

A body continues to remain in a state of rest or uniform motion in the same direction in a straight line unless acted upon by some external force.

Nothing can start by itself and nothing can stop by itself an outside force is always necessary to start motion and to stop motion. In this law suddenly a question arises How do cars and bikes start without external force?

Actually, these are the vehicles also started by external force. An automobile or engine must have an outside force to start it. In the case of an automobile the outside force which starts the motor is furnished by gasoline. And engines the outside force is furnished by the petrol or diesel

Why did Newton say that nothing can stop without some external force stopping it?

The explanation is simple enough, the wheels of a car and bike contact with the ground.
