Cooling system troubleshooting - Overheating - Slow warm-up - Noisy water pump

Usually, some common faults occur in the cooling system. Here we know about problems and what are solutions, we can take for those faults.

Overheating

This may be caused due to any one or more of the following reasons. However, it must be borne in mind that overheating is caused not only due to defects in the cooling system. Rather the same may be caused by many factors completely different. The following reasons are very common:

Reverse flushing is done by circulating water under pressure in the direction opposite to the normal. A defective hose or faulty connections may be another source of overheating. Sometimes the engine block may also be cracked, causing a loss of coolant. A defective water pump reduces the volume of the cooling water to be circulated and thus may be the cause of overheating. A defective thermostat that may be sticking in the closed position will not allow the water to go to the radiator and be cooled there.

Slow warm-up

When the engine takes unduly more time to warm, the defect may be also due to the thermostat valve being stuck open. It may be removed and tested.

Noisy water pump

If the water pump is making too much noise, the reason may be either a defective seal or a defective bearing. The only remedy is the replacement of the bearing.
