Who discovered X-rays?
Wilhelm Roentgen discovered X-rays in the year 1895.
How did he discover it?
A beam of fast-moving electrons is incident in a target. The target consists of a copper block in which a piece of tungsten or molybdenum is fired, and invisible penetrating radiation is produced.
Due to the unknown nature of the radiation, Roentgen called this radiation as X - rays.
Important uses of X - Rays
1) It is used to detect fractures and tumours in the human body.
2) The diagnosis of tuberculosis, is a stone in the kidneys.
3) Skin diseases, malignant sores, and cancer have been cured by
X-rays.
4) X-rays are used to analyse the structure of material composite bodies alloys, rubber, and cellulose.
5) X- rays used to study the structure of crystalline solids and alloys.
