Methods for diagnosing disease through changes in the tongue.

The tongue is the source of taste, chewing food with teeth, swallowing chewed food and speaking. There are taste buds on the surface of the tongue. With the help of these, we can feel many tastes such as sweet, salty, sour, astringent, and bitter. The tongue is the reason for speaking.

If there are defects in the tongue, the speech will not be clear. There is a kind of muscle called a frenulum at the base of the tongue. If this is slightly small, it will not be possible to speak. The speech problems seen in speech may be due to a small tongue and a tongue that cannot bend easily.

Normally, the tongue appears pink in colour. If there is any change in its appearance and colour, it indicates a disease that has occurred in some other part of the body. That is why doctors have made it a habit to look at the tongue of patients.

The appearance of the tongue, gums, and mucous membranes in the mouth undergo significant changes according to various diseases affecting the body. By knowing these changes, it is possible to correctly diagnose the disease affecting the body.

Some ways to diagnose disease based on changes in the tongue

If the tongue is smooth and blood red, it indicates liver dysfunction, if it is pale, it indicates anaemia, if it is yellow, it indicates jaundice, and if there are black spots on the pale tongue, it indicates anaemia caused by vitamin B12 deficiency.

The tongue becomes blood red when there is a skin rash caused by malnutrition. If there is blood cancer, the tongue and gums turn pale and become swollen. Apart from this, there is constant bleeding from the gums.

If the immune system related to blood is weak, ulcers occur in the mouth and tongue. If there is iron deficiency, cracks appear on the corners of the mouth. The inside of the tongue may burn or itch due to anaemia, allergies, imbalances in hormones, etc. Only people with healthy habits have a normal tongue.

When we have an illness, such as a severe fever, we cannot taste the taste of food because when the tongue is affected, we cannot taste the taste of food.
